GRECO
hotel, an old traditional
hotel, was one of
the largest old bakeries
of the island, that
used to supply commercial
ships and warships
and especially ships
that used to collect
sponges in the 18th
and 19th century
with bread for the
needs of long journeys.
On Hydra besides the many stores
there were also
24 "Public" Bakeries
(four publics)
initially to
supply with bread
the russian fleet
during its tours
in the Aegean
sea and later
"... and any
other fleet,
no matter how
big it was ...".
The building of the old bakery
was restored
and converted
into a beautiful
hospitable hotel
with 19 rooms,
with all the
modern comforts.
